Reline -- add material to the tissue bearing (acrylic) surface of the denture. Rebase -- replace all of the acrylic except the teeth. Remake -- replace an existing denture.
There are three main types of relines you can get depending on the severity of tissue change and type of denture. Theyre called hard, soft, and temporary relines. If you have full dentures, you should be getting hard relines every two years.
Rebasing a denture practically renews its lifespan. To keep the dentures functioning properly, the process should be done every five to seven years. If the denture no longer fits like before, the dentist might recommend rebasing, especially if relining the denture will not be enough.
Types of Relines There are two resins which can be used to reline your dentures: hard or soft. Your dentist can explain the difference between them and recommend the optimal reline method for your needs.
A rebase procedure is similar to relining your dentures. The difference is that a rebase replaces all the pink acrylic denture base material. The existing teeth remain in the exact same place. Rebasing may be required if your denture is broken or weak.
When your gums or jaw line change, you will need to have your dentures relined. You will keep the same teeth that you have had, but the underside will be remade to fit your new shape. There are two types of relines- soft and hard.
