here is a medium power view of a hyper chromatic crowded cell group now this cell group is actually quite small when you compare it to the adjacent squamous cell and its got this lobulated outlined which immediately makes you think of glandular cells when we see small groups of atypical cells the disappearance we must always think of endometrial cells because they tend to shed rather than being scraped off directly so usually the cell works by small and fairly degenerate so lets take a closer look and again when we focus up and down we appreciate that this cell group seems to be slightly in a different cleaner focus from the screen myself and that is yet another feature of endometrial cells so we can appreciate that there seem to be a lot of smaller cells here and some of them have got multi looks nuclei these are neutrophils so then intervals within cytoplasm are some of these a typical glandular cells and what we really want to look at are the nuclei so we need to focus up and down

Purpose of the test It is able to identify cervical cancer early, as well as changes in cervical cells that may become cancerous if not treated. When used as a screening test, a Pap smear may be used alone or along with a test for strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause cervical cancer.
Pap screening may end at age 65 if the Pap history is unremarkable and the patient is low risk. low risk women 30 and above may go every 3 years if Pap only; or 5 years if cotesting. Risk factors that should be considered are HPV infection, STDs, HIV, smoking, new sexual partners, previous SIL or immunosuppression.
This test can be uncomfortable, but it should not be painful. Test results for a Pap smear fall into three categories: Normal Pap smear: No abnormal cells were detected. Most people receiving a normal, or a negative, result may be able to wait 3 years before repeating the Pap test.
Following an abnormal Pap smear, your next step is additional testing. Dr. Tajzoy may suggest redoing the Pap smear to see if results come back the same.
Women ages 21 to 29 should get a Pap test every three years. Women ages 30 to 65 should have a Pap test combined with an HPV test every five years. Some women with certain conditions may need more frequent testing, including women with a history of cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS or a weakened immune system.
What happens after my abnormal Pap smear? After you get the call from your doctors office that you have an abnormal pap smear, youll come back into the office where you may have a repeat Pap test, or youll have a noninvasive procedure called a colposcopy.
An inadequate cervical smear test result simply means that the swab sample did not contain enough cells to provide an accurate result. Youll need to repeat the smear test, usually in three months time, to give the surface of your cervix enough time to regenerate enough cells.
Treatment choices include: Cone biopsy. Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), which uses a thin, low-voltage electrified wire loop to cut out abnormal cervical cells. Cryotherapy, which destroys abnormal cervical cells by freezing them. Laser therapy, which uses a laser beam to destroy abnormal cervical cells.
