well a warm welcome to todays Talk Saturday the 19th of November now the G20 leaders have been making plans in Bali for the next pandemic but the problem is they dont know what the next pandemic is going to be is it going to be caused by a prion disease a viral disease if so what sort of virus I mean we expected the next pandemic to be an influenza virus but it wasnt it was a coronavirus these things are difficult to anticipate could it be a bacterium for which theres antibiotic resistance could it be a protozoa we dont know the nature of the virus or the bacterium or the infection that causes the next pandemic so its a bit hard to see really realistically how we would plan for it till we know the transmission characteristics and yet thats what theyre doing and the lack of uh knowledge that theyre demonstrating of future infectious diseases really does concern me quite a bit now you can get this from anywhere now obviously Ive gone directly to the original sources as far as
