To apply a template to an existing document, we go to File amp;gt; Options amp;gt; Add-ins and in the bottom Manage dropdown we select Templates and click on Go. Then we click on Attach and in the Windows Explorer we select our custom Word template file. Afterwards, we check the box which says Automatically update document styles and with that, our current document will take over the styles from the template document. A United States postal code, for example, might be either five digits or five digits followed a hyphen (dash) and another four digits (12345-1234). If you are validating US postal codes, allow for both conditions. The following rule validates a field that can be five digits, five digits + dash + 4 digits, or blank.
In all numeric values, leading zeros are dropped during a mail merge. For zip codes and other numbers to come through a mail merge without losing zeros, they should be formatted as text. To have it done, select the column with numbers and choose Text in the Number Format box on the Home tab.
Display numbers as postal codes Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. To cancel a selection of cells, click any cell on the worksheet. On the Home tab, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Number. In the Category box, click Special. In the Type list, click Zip Code or Zip Code + 4.
It is preferred that all City, State, and ZIP Code information be on a single line. If that is not possible, the ZIP Code, including the ZIP+4 Code, may be placed below the city/state information. However, when compressing line #11, do not remove the hyphen between the ZIP Code and the ZIP+4 add-on code.
The correct format for a numeric ZIP+4 code is five digits, a hyphen, and four digits. The first five digits represent the 5-digit ZIP Code; the sixth and seventh digits (the first two after the hyphen) identify an area known as a sector; the eighth and ninth digits identify a smaller area known as a segment.
Structure of Pin Code/Postal Code The first digit represents the region in India. The second digit is the sub-region, while the third digit is the sorting district. The last three digits represent the particular post office within the district.
To ensure your zip code or postal code pass through a mail merge without losing any zeros, format the column containing those codes as text. Open your spreadsheet and select the column that contains the zip codes or postal codes. On the Home tab, in the Format box, choose Text.
