If you insert the water mark in the main body of the document (instead of the header footer) then what you describe could happen if the paragraph to which the graphic is anchored is deleted, or moves to a different page. In the first case, deleting the paragraph will delete the anchor, which will delete the watermark.
It is possible that your text is in a shape or a table that has a white background that blocks the watermark. Watermarks are images that are in the header. The header acts like a base layer for your text. If there is something in the text layer that blocks it, you will not see it.
Using the Windows hotkeys is the fastest way to insert a watermark in Word. Press the Alt key to enable the hotkey selection mode and press the keys GPW one after the other to insert the watermark in Word.
Add a DRAFT watermark Choose Design Watermark. In the Insert Watermark box, select Text, and then choose DRAFT.
Double-click near the top of the page to open the header. Click the watermark to select it. (Try moving the cursor over the watermark until the cursor displays a four-headed arrow.) Drag the watermark where you want it on the page.
Draft mode was used to show the user what the print job would look like (while saving some ink/toner) before printing the final copy. The print quality or draft mode was configured through the printer properties menu. Today, many word processors include a draft mode that removes a documents formatting.
However, sometimes a watermark may not be displayed. The most common reason for this is that by default watermarks are displayed in the background, behind the documents content. In most cases this is not a problem as the content of most documents is largely transparent.
