Electronic filing: The most efficient method for filing your trademark application is online. If youre doing it yourself, you can file it through the USPTO portal. If youre using an online service, the provider will submit it on your behalf.
You use the registered trademark symbol () to identify a registered trademark. There is some flexibility in how you use any trademark symbol. Still, you typically put the registered trademark symbol () immediately next to the trademark and in the upper right corner for words and the lower right corner for logos.
Where do you put a trademark symbol with a name or phrase? For word marks, including names and slogans or catchphrases, it is customary to place the trademark symbol on the right side of the mark. Also, it is best to locate the TM, SM, or directly after the mark and at the upper right in superscript.
Trademark symbols are not usually used every single time a mark (whether a name, logo or phrase) is mentioned. If they were, imagine how busy and cluttered marketing materials would appear. Instead, it is customary to use a symbol with either the most prominent use of mark or with the first instance of its use.
Where should a trademark symbol be placed? While a trademark symbol can, in fact, be used anywhere around a mark, it is customary to place the symbol either directly after the mark, in the upper-right corner (superscript); in the lower-right corner (subscript); or level with the mark.
To insert the copyright symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+C. To insert the trademark symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+T. To insert the registered trademark symbol, press Ctrl+Alt+R.
If your mark covers both goods and services, use TM. The federal registration symbol, , is only for marks registered with the USPTO.
To register a trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), you will need to fill out and submit a trademark application. You can do this online, using the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS), an online trademark filing service, or you can submit a paper application.
