Today, Iamp;#39;ve decided to synthesize the smell of death. To do this itamp;#39;s actually really simple, and I just need to start with something called ornithine, which is often sold as a health supplement. Then on top of this Iamp;#39;ll add a bit of baking soda, and Iamp;#39;ll shake it around a bit. I was doing this to really mix the two powders, and when I felt that it looked good, I dumped it all into a test tube. Now to turn this into the smell of death, all I have to do is heat it up with a Bunsen burner. What should be happening here is a reaction known as a decarboxylation, and the ornithine, should be turning into something called putrescine. Just the name alone doesnamp;#39;t sound good at all, and itamp;#39;s one of the major stinky chemicals, thatamp;#39;s given off by a rotting body. But anyway, after cooling down for a bit, it should be good to go, and itamp;#39;s time to see if it worked.
