so Iamp;#39;m getting ready to stain the countertops and I want to show you guys thereamp;#39;s a few things that you want to do before you stain wood first of all these are called tack cloths theyamp;#39;ve got kind of like a sticky residue on them and they just help pick up like any dust which is really awesome so Iamp;#39;m going to wipe everything down and then we want to make sure before we stain pick up a can like this they make one for a water-based or oil-based so make sure you check this is an oil-based stain so Iamp;#39;m going to use this itamp;#39;s just a pre-stained wood conditioner if youamp;#39;ve ever stained something and itamp;#39;s kind of blotchy itamp;#39;s because the wood different species like absorb differently and so this kind of gives you like one even coat so that instead of having blotchiness like this you get like one smooth finish itamp;#39;s a step that takes like five extra minutes and it will make a world of difference on your project

Stir the sealer or stain thoroughly. Dont shake sealer because bubbles will form in the finish. Apply a thin, even coat of sealer or stain over a two- to three-board section using a paint roller with an extension handle or a sprayer. Two thin coats are better than one thick coat that doesnt properly adhere or dry.
Stain Application. Apply stain only at the proper temperature. For most stains, 70 degrees Fahrenheit is the optimum, with the safety range from 50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Apply solid stains in thin coats and semi-transparent stains or clear sealers in even thinner coats. This prevents puddles that dont soak into the wood and cause the stain to flake off when dry. Whatever type of stain you use, apply two coats to ensure there are no missed spots and to get a more uniform finish.
When spraying lighter materials like stains, select the lowest pressure setting that enables you to maintain a good spray pattern. Lower pressure settings will give you better control and a finer finish.
If it is a quick drying stain like Olympic Smart Guard it will be dry within a couple hours. If it is a deep solid color stain you may want to wait 24 hours before stepping on the stained wood surface. 1 Hour For Olympic Smartguard - How Long Does It Take Wood Stain To Dry?
Technology Interior/ExteriorInterior Technology Waterborne Liquid Coatings Maximum VOC 324.11 g/L 2.7 lb/gal - 595.22 g/L 4.96 lb/gal Dry Time to Sand/Recoat 30 minutes @ 77 F (25 C)
For best results, avoid staining at midday or in direct sunlight. When applying the second coat of stain on the deck, wait 4 hours between applications. Depending on temperature and humidity, allow 24-48 hours of dry time before using your beautifully restored deck or porch.
