Base64 is a scheme for converting binary data to printable ASCII characters, namely the upper- and lower-case Roman alphabet characters (AZ, az), the numerals (09), and the + and / symbols, with the = symbol as a special suffix code.
Base64-encoded data is represented with standard ASCII characters, so its perfect for sending images or other binary data over a text-based system like email. Keep in mind that if you see an equals sign (or two) at the end of a string, thats a strong indicator that the data is Base64 encoded.
What is Radix 64 Encoding? Radix 64 encoding allows binary data stored in octets (i.e. bytes) to be expressed as printable characters.
The Base64 characters include: Numbers: 0123456789 Symbols: +/ Uppercase letters: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Lowercase letters: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Padding character: =
If you try to send an email with base64 images to a Gmail or Google Workspace account, the image will not be displayed in the email body but will be displayed as an attachment instead. The workaround is to convert the base64 image to a blob and then embed the blob in the email.
Base64 strings tend to end in one or two equal signs, but not always! These strings are not exact representations of the binary data in ASCII, because padding is applied to ensure the string length is a multiple of 4 characters. Each equal sign represents two bits of zero-padding. Ok, so why the padding?

Base32 is an encoding method that uses printable ASCII characters. In Base32, data is divided into 5 bits and converted into alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 2-7). Converts every 8 characters, and if the last is less than 8 characters, pad with the equal symbol (=).
