Another way to conceal scratches in varnished wood furniture is to apply watercolour paint to the affected area. Use an artist brush and paint together to hide the scratches, once concealed, you can cover the spot with wax or varnish.
Two choices: lacquer (very many coats, followed by knocking back the surface with extremly fine sandpaper) or French polish, which is inherently self-leveling but is more difficult to perform well.
Use a specialised wood filler that matches the colour of your table to fill in the deep scratch. You can use your finger to work it into the scratch, making sure there are no gaps of air. Use a putty knife or an old credit card to smooth the surface and remove any excess wood filler from the table.
Use your steel wool. Gently rub the steel wool over the scratch, remember to only ever rub WITH the grain of the wood, not against. Blend with sandpaper. Use the sandpaper to buff the edges of the scratch and the immediate area around it, so it will blend in with the rest of the floor.
Below are more specific, proven, and tested DIY hacks for your other home furniture, such as your wooden bedroom sets, tables, and chairs. Option 1 Use a Vinegar and Olive Oil Combo. Option 2 Use Shoe Polish. Option 3 Keep Your Used Tea Bags or Coffee Grounds. Option 4 Fill Scratches With Wood Putty.
A mix of apple cider vinegar and olive oil should do the trick for getting scratches out of wood floor surfaces. Simply combine equal parts of each ingredient, rub into the scratched area, and leave it there for a day before buffing it out with a soft cloth. This will help restore your floor to its original shine.
Wood filler dries quickly and provides a durable surface. It repairs the deeper damages, making it well-suited for gouges, nail holes and filling in gaps. Its especially good for gouges and deeper scratchesthose that took off more than the top layer of wood. Pick a wood filler that matches your wood color.
Little known fact is that baking soda and olive oil can remove shallow scratches on wood. Baking soda is a fine, gentle abrasive that can buff out the scratch, while olive oil forms a protective seal to prevent water and grease damage.
