what makes Ott so over the top is that it allows us to also include upwards compression so in this example notice the signals exceeding those black threshold lines will perform typical downward compression but specifically my high band when the volume gets quieter and drops below the threshold thatamp;#39;s when upwards kicks in and anything below the threshold it raises the volume and thatamp;#39;s why you hear all those tails in reverbs check it out

When Would You Use OTT Compression? Electro producers mainly use Xfer Records OTT compression to beef up sounds in a mix or on individual instruments. This can involve anything from drums and synths to vocals and even full mixes.
OTT refers to Over the Top compression. And to put it simply, OTT is electronic dance music. This is so ridiculously true that Ill say it again: OTT is electronic dance music. Every single professional producer I know uses this specific type of multiband compressor.
The most common application of multiband compression in a production context is probably creating conformity in an uneven recording. This might be a bass instrument which loses bass in higher notes, or a vocal recording where the singer struggles with mic technique and drifts away from the mic occasionally.
You can use OTT on pretty much any element in the mix leads, basses, even the master. The most important thing to remember when using OTT is that you want it to be transparent.
Vocals take especially well to tube saturation. The low-mids give most vocals a charming warmth that fits nicely in the mix. Just remember, a little goes a long way! Its easy to mangle your vocals beyond compare with harsh-sounding saturation.
The key to using OTT compression in an enhancive way is only using a tiny bit. That means, taking your dry and wet knob and turning it down a lot. Doing that creates a rough shimmer, like extremely heavy saturation, in the back of your sound.
OTT is a free multiband compressor plugin that can be used to add dynamic range and punch to vocals. Its great for adding both subtle compression as well as extreme effects, making it very versatile. It has an intuitive interface, making it easy to use even for those who are new to multiband compression.
OTT meaning stands for over the top, initially named in reference to devices that go over a cable box to give the user access to TV content. On OTT platforms, content is delivered via an internet connection rather than through a traditional cable/broadcast provider.
