Click anywhere in the chart to show the Chart tab on the ribbon. Click Format to open the chart formatting options. In the Chart pane, expand the Legend section.
Edit legend texts Click the chart. Click Chart Filters. next to the chart, and click Select Data. Select an entry in the Legend Entries (Series) list, and click Edit. In the Series Name field, type a new legend entry. Tip: You can also select a cell from which the text is retrieved. Click the Identify Cell icon. Click OK.
At a minimum, adding a legend to a chart requires setting the legends IsVisible property to true and setting the Title attribute in the Data nodes that are to appear in the legend box. This example shows such a minimal legend. This example shows more of the attributes that affect a legend.
Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element Legend. To change the position of the legend, choose Right, Top, Left, or Bottom. To change the format of the legend, click More Legend Options, and then make the format changes that you want.
Select your chart and on the Chart Design tab, choose Select Data. Choose on the legend name you want to change in the Select Data Source dialog box, and select Edit. Note: You can update Legend Entries and Axis Label names from this view, and multiple Edit options might be available.
