# How to create a custom legend with matplotlib axes. bar( label=Men ) axes. bar( label=Women ) axes. men = axes. bar() women = axes. bar() axes. from matplotlib. patches import Patch handles = [ Patch(facecolor=#5c44fd, label=Tech), Patch(facecolor=#ff5566, label=Clothing) ]
To create a legend in Matplotlib, you can use the legend() function after plotting your data. This function adds a legend to your plot, which helps to identify different data series.
Python has a function called legend() which is used to place a legend on the axis. The legend function has an attribute called loc which is used to denote the location of the legend. The default value of attribute loc is upper left. Other string, such as upper right, lower left, lower right can also be used.
Add a legend Open a layout with at least one map frame. Select the map frame in the Contents pane. Optionally, expand the map in the Contents pane to select a subset of layers. On the Insert tab, in the Map Surrounds group, click the Legend button . On the layout view, click and drag to create the legend.
To move the legend outside the plot, well use the bboxtoanchor and loc parameters of the legend function. The bboxtoanchor parameter specifies the legends position. The tuple (1.05, 1) positions the legend just outside the plots right edge. The loc parameter determines where the legends anchor point should be.
Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element Legend. To change the position of the legend, choose Right, Top, Left, or Bottom. To change the format of the legend, click More Legend Options, and then make the format changes that you want.
Adding a legend to an Excel chart is a good way to make your data more understandable for your colleagues. It can provide a key to help readers interpret the symbols, colors, axes or labels included in your chart.
Unfortunately, Matplotlib does not make this easy: via the standard legend interface, it is only possible to create a single legend for the entire plot. If you try to create a second legend using plt. legend() or ax. legend() , it will simply override the first one.
