The most common reason for a disk to show as RAW is when the drive gets corrupted. And when the drive is showing itself as RAW, you cannot access your files or do anything. But, luckily, you can convert the drive again from RAW to NTFS or FAT32whichever file system is your choice.
Change RAW to NTFS using Disk Management. Find This PC / My Computer on the desktop and right-click on it. Then select Manage - Disk Management and find your RAW storage device (SD memory card, hard disk, USB flash drive, etc.) among the volumes and right-click on it. Select the format and the file system (NTFS).
A RAW file is what the name suggests: raw, unprocessed data. It contains the image data exactly as captured on your camera sensor. Any white balance, Picture Style or other settings that you might have applied are only appended to the image file.
Shooting in RAW captures a high level of image detail, with large file sizes and lossless quality. The direct image data means you start with a high-quality image that can be edited, converted, and compressed in a non-destructive manner. RAW files are a type of raster file format, but not actually images themselves.
RAW file system indicates a state of your hard drive which has no or unknown file system. A disk or drive with a RAW file system is also known as RAW disk or RAW drive. When a hard drive or external storage device is shown as RAW, it could be: The file system of the drive is missing or damaged.
A lot of reasons can cause an external hard drive to become RAW: The file system is not supported by the operating system. The file system structure has been damaged.
Even with new cameras we sometimes see lack of raw support: the recent Fujifilm X-Trans sensor cameras arent always supported by all raw converters, and many of the conversions that are available are sub-standard. The problem is simple: raw files are all proprietary.
5 Methods Method #1: Update drivers for the external hard drive. Method #2: Format RAW partition to NTFS/FAT32/exFAT/EXT4 using DiskGenius Free. Method #3: DiskPart converts RAW to NTFS/FAT32. Method #4: Check and repair bad sectors. Method #5: Delete RAW partition and create new partition.
