FAA FAR 61.51 states that each person must document and record certain items in a manner acceptable to the Administrator. The regulation does not define what is acceptable, but in most cases, digital logbooks will be accepted if the logbook records the necessary information.
(iii) Any Federal, State, or local law enforcement officer. (iii) Any other record required by this section. (3) A sport pilot must carry his or her logbook or other evidence of required authorized instructor endorsements on all flights.
When maintaining your logbook, ensure you follow these general guidelines: Date and times. Mandatory. Aircraft info. Mandatory. Airport info. Mandatory. Function info. Mandatory. PIC name. Mandatory. Crew operation info. Mandatory. Single pilot operated flights. Mandatory. Multi pilot operated flights. Mandatory.
Furthermore, dont use a pencil! A pencil is not an accepted method of logbook entry, and all signatures must be in pen.
One of the most tedious jobs pilots do is sitting down and tallying their hours. An electronic pilot logbook does all of this automatically. All of the math functions are built-in. Many of them can even auto-populate the FAA 8710 and IACRA application forms.
Each logged entry should be in pen, with every page signed. Make sure each completed page is also totaled and signed in pen. If you can, using the same type of pen for every entry will give each page a clean, uniform look.
To correct an error in a logbook, draw a single line through the mistake and indicate what was adjusted. Please, no whiteout and no Sharpie. Often you will find initials next to a correction as well, to show who made the change.
6) Blue Or Black Ink Pens Should Always Be Used Avoid pencil if you can. The signature on each page MUST be in pen, with each and every page signed.
