The type xsd:ID is used for an attribute that uniquely identifies an element in an XML document. An xsd:ID value must be an NCName . This means that it must start with a letter or underscore, and can only contain letters, digits, underscores, hyphens, and periods.
Indicates the unique identifier for an associated element, so that the elements content may be cross-referenced. IDs must be unique inside their document (not just within their element type); the XML parser enforces this.
The only difference between an id and a name is that a name can contain multiple aliases separated by a comma, semicolon or whitespace, whereas an id must be a single value. From the Spring 3.2 documentation: In XML-based configuration metadata, you use the id and/or name attributes to specify the bean identifier(s). Description. Under XML 1.0, an ID is a unique identifier to aid in processing. You can annotate an element uniquely with an attribute of type ID, as in id=i-35867 (IDs cant start with a number), which often assumes an associated DTD containing the attribute-list declaration .
The id attribute specifies a unique id for an HTML element (the value must be unique within the HTML document). The id attribute is most used to point to a style in a style sheet, and by JavaScript (via the HTML DOM) to manipulate the element with the specific id. XML Attributes In the start tag, the attribute for an element is inserted after the tag name. For a single element, you can add many attributes with distinct names. Attribute values must be within quotes. An element cannot contain several attributes with the same name.
