DITA includes three main topic types: Task, Concept, and Reference. Tasks are used to describe how to perform a procedure. Concepts present descriptive information so the reader can understand the background and context of a subject. Reference topics provide detailed facts, often in a table.
The topic ID is an alphanumeric string that is the address of the topic in the project. It is also used to generate the HTML filename of the topic in all HTML-based output formats. When you create a new topic the ID is generated on the basis of the topic caption.
The DITA ID attribute provides a method to uniquely identify content (topics or elements) to reference. In a DITA topic, you can assign a unique ID to an element to use the element when you are creating a conrefs (Content references) or cross-references (Cross-references) to the element from another topic.
To insert an image, use the image tag and specify the placement attribute to set line wrapping. You can also choose placement=inline if youre inserting an image in the line of your sentence (such as a button image) or if you want text to flow around your image.
A topic in DITA is the most granular entity of information. ing to the DITA specifications, a topic should be short enough to be easily readable, but long enough to make sense on its own. To cover separate content such as concepts, tasks, reference, the DITA standard specifies different information types.
Under XML 1.0, an ID is a unique identifier to aid in processing. You can annotate an element uniquely with an attribute of type ID, as in id=i-35867 (IDs cant start with a number), which often assumes an associated DTD containing the attribute-list declaration .
Because topics are the basic units of information within DITA, the id attribute for the topic must be unique within the document instance. A topic architecture assembles topics into a deliverable by reference. To ensure that topics can be referenced, the id attribute is required on the topic element.
