Add headers and footers in a word-processing document Click in a page where you want to add headers and footers. Move the pointer over the top or bottom of the page until you see the three header or footer fields, then click one (you can use any combination of fields to complete your header or footer).
Here is how to do it: Go to the Insert menu in the Word ribbon. Select Header from the Header Footer section. Select Blank Header, the first option. Click on Page Number on the top left. Type the title of the paper in all caps. After typing the title, place the cursor immediately to the left of the page number.
Put your cursor at the end of the contents on the first page and go to Insert Break Section break (next page). Go to the first page of your document, click on Options Header format, change any parameters you need to, and select Apply to this section (Section 1). Press the blue Apply button to save your changes.
