The Via header identifies a calls path with the protocol name, protocol version, transport type, user agent client (UAC), the protocol port for the request and a branch parameter which serves as a unique identifier for each SIP transaction .
The Via header field indicates the path taken by the request so far and helps in routing the responses back along the same path. If the SIP INVITE passed through multiple SIP proxies, there will be multiple VIA headers.
API headers are a section of your requests thats used to transfer metadata about the request and the desired response. In more basic terms, this is where you can provide extra information about the request.
Remember that the routing of SIP responses such as 180 Ringing or 200 OK is determined by the Via headers. The Contact header is used by downstream endpoints when they need to send SIP requests back upstream.
The Via header field value MUST contain a branch parameter. This parameter is used to identify the transaction created by that request. This parameter is used by both the client and the server. Branch Parameter: The branch parameter value MUST be unique across space and time for all requests sent by the User Agent.
The Forwarded request header contains information that may be added by reverse proxy servers (load balancers, CDNs, and so on) that would otherwise be altered or lost when proxy servers are involved in the path of the request.
The Via general header is added by proxies, both forward and reverse, and can appear in the request or response headers. It is used for tracking message forwards, avoiding request loops, and identifying the protocol capabilities of senders along the request/response chain.
