welcome to dorman products installation video for exhaust gas temperature sensor bung replacement this installation is considered difficult and should take an hour to an hour and a half after removing the catalyst note this installation time does not include removing and reinstalling the catalyst with the catalyst and original egt sensor off the vehicle mark the area to be cut using the new bung mounting plate as a template using a cut-off wheel cut through the catalyst housing inside the marked lines leaving the corners attached for now with the four main cuts complete use a reciprocating saw to cut through two of the corners then pry the bung outward breaking through the remaining two corners to remove file any burrs from the edges of the cuts then use an abrasive disc to remove any corrosion from the area to be welded make any necessary adjustments to the bung mounting plate to conform to the contour of the catalyst housing using an appropriate welder for stainless steel thoroughly

Wiring EgT Probes: The EGT cables on the probes can be trimmed to fit, stripped and separated for thermocouple connector installation. Each connector has a male and female end, for consistency all female ends on the EGT probe wires. EGT polarity is very critical and it must be noted the red wire is negative.
A general consensus would be 2 inch to 4 inches from the cylinder head if practical. But its your car so its your decision. For turbo engines be sure to CLEAN ALL METAL FILINGS out of the exhaust manifold.
To connect them, use suitable thermocouple wire. and link the positive wire to the EGT signal input (e.g. EGT1 on the ME442) and the negative wire of the EGT sensor to the sensor ground pin of the ECU.

Next using the diagonal pliers. Starting at the second mark carefully trim and remove the stainless steel outer breeding.
There are two types of exhaust gas temperature sensors; one with a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) sensing element, and the other a negative temperature coefficient (NTC), the only difference being how they measure the temperature.
Remember that all EGTs are type K thermocouples and that Yellow is Positive and Red is Negative.
Many experts suggest installing the EGT probe in the exhaust manifold before the turbo for three reasons: 1) The farther the EGT probe is away from the manifold, the greater the lag time response to dynamic changes in temperature.
The depth will depend on the type of induction youre running in naturally aspirated engines the probe needs to sit in the centre of the pipe while in engines with forced induction the probe will be no more than 6mm into the pipe, so much shallower than in N/A engines.
