The -r option allows you to recursively zip a directory and its files. It includes all the files present in the specified directory and its subdirectories in the resulting zip archive. (Exclude files from the zip): Using the -x option, you can exclude specific files from being included in the zip archive.
Press and hold (or right-click) the file or folder, select (or point to) Send to, and then select Compressed (zipped) folder. A new zipped folder with the same name is created in the same location. To rename it, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Rename, and then type the new name.
The syntax is zip -r . The -r option tells zip to include files/folders in sub-directories. Use quotes around the zip file or folder name if the name contains any spaces.
By default, the zip command doesnt archive a directory recursively. By using the flag -r, zip will traverse subdirectories recursively and archive their files. Running the command with option -r ensures the files within the directory are included as well.
One of the most useful commands in Linux is the zip command, which allows you to create and manage compressed archives. A zip command is a powerful file packaging utility that can be used to compress and extract files and directories, as well as to add, update, and delete files from a zip archive.
Right-click on the file or folder. Select Compressed (zipped) folder. To place multiple files into a zip folder, select all of the files while hitting the Ctrl button. Then, right-click on one of the files, move your cursor over the Send to option and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
- r is the recursive option. It will recursively remove directories and their contents.
