Why did Shelley stab Frank? As Frank loses control of the situation and Alice makes her escape, Shelley stabs her husband with a knife. As she stabs him, she says Its my turn now. This hints at Shelley taking over his role as leader of the simulation.
For this reason, the plane in Dont Worry Darling can be seen as a symbol of Alices escape. The plane might have crashed in the desert, but the form of transportation helped Alice ultimately escape the simulation.
The twist ending of Dont Worry Darling is that Victory is actually a simulation. Frank (Chris Pine) came up with this idea because he wanted men to be able to control women and live as if its still the 1950s. Alice is understandably horrified to learn about what Victory really is.
Dont Worry Darling is all about showcasing the way in which women are trapped in a world that doesnt support them, believe them, or wish to see them have control or power. Bunny and Shelley both, in their own ways, uphold systemic inequality because it benefits them.
In the 1950s, Alice and Jack live in the idealized community of Victory, an experimental company town that houses the men who work on a top-secret project. While the husbands toil away, the wives get to enjoy the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their seemingly perfect paradise. However, when cracks in her idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something sinister lurking below the surface, Alice cant help but question exactly what shes doing in Victory. Dont Worry Darling / Film synopsis
What was that rumbling? When Alice is making Jack breakfast, and later when shes shopping with her gal pals, the world around them shudders violently, rattling glass and nerves. Peg (a crackerjack Kate Berlant) speculates that the rumblings come from underground laboratories, where Project Victory is building weapons.
In its most direct interpretation, Dont Worry Darling attempts to force audience members to challenge the social structure of our own world through creating and then dismantling a false one.
