This is to ensure that the data remains intact without modification during transport. Base64 is commonly used in a number of applications including email via MIME, and storing complex data in XML. Base64 is a binary to a text encoding scheme that represents binary data in an American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) string format. Its designed to carry data stored in binary format across the channels, and it takes any form of data and transforms it into a long string of plain text.
Base64 uses 6-bit characters grouped into 24-bit sequences. For example, consider the sentence Hi\n, where the \n represents a newline. The first step in the encoding process is to obtain the binary representation of each ASCII character. This can be done by looking up the values in an ASCII-to-binary conversion table.
Radix-64 (as described for OpenPGP) The checksum is calculated on the input data before encoding; the checksum is then encoded with the same Base64 algorithm and, using an additional = symbol as separator, appended to the encoded output data.
A radix is simply a way a number can be represented. The most commonly known radix is decimal, which utilizes ten digits from 0-9 to represent numbers. Surprisingly, there are many more ways numbers can be represented besides the decimal format! Using the decimal format when decoding digital data can be a bit messy.
Radix 64 or base 64 is a binary-to-text encoding system that is designed to allow binary data to be represented in ASCII string format. This is an educational project accepts a string from a user and Radix 64 encodes it.
One common approach is to first convert the integer array into a binary string, and then encode the binary string into radix 64.
The steps followed by the base64 algorithm include: Count the number of characters in a string. If its not a multiple of three, pad with a special character, i.e., = to make it a multiple of three. Encode the string in ASCII format. Now, it will convert the ASCII to binary format, 8 bit each.
