Use a comma in dollar amounts in the thousands. For dollar amounts beyond thousands, use the dollar sign, numeral (even when less than 10), and appropriate word.
In manuscripts, nota bene is abbreviated in upper-case as NB and N.B., and in lower-case as n.b. and nb; the editorial usages of nota bene and notate bene first appeared in the English style of writing around the year 1711.
When writing a four-digit numeral in digits (other than a date), American writers never use a comma, but British writers usually do. Hence Americans write 2000 years and 3700 people, while Britons often write 2,000 years and 3,700 people.
Commas are used when grouping by thousands.
When writing out a number of three or more digits, the word and is not necessary. However, use the word and to express any decimal points that may accompany these numbers. Rule 8b. When writing out numbers above 999, do not use commas.
Answer. Because it is unnecessary to label each section of numbers like we do with integers. For integers, we label them by thousands, millions, and so on, because they get very big.
Use commas in numbers with 4 or more digits Numbers with 4 or more digits (starting from 1,000) need a comma. Use commas for numerals in text and in tables. You need to use a combination of words and numerals for large rounded numbers over a million. Large rounded numbers are punctuated with a decimal point.
Some choose to insert a colon between the abbreviation and subsequent text, while others do not. Writers insert the abbreviation to draw a readers attention to a particular piece of information, as below. NB Costs are exclusive of taxes. NB: Professional development opportunities are unlimited.
