To type special characters in Windows, hold the Alt key, type the number code associated with the special character you want using the numpad thats located on the right side of your keyboard.
Inserting ASCII characters To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad.
Use the alt key to type the alternate character for a key. To type the alternate character for a key, press it and the right alt key simultaneously. For example, type alt + e to type on a French or German keyboard.
What counts as a character in a text message? Any standard letter, symbol or space counts as a single character. The exception to that rule is emojis.
