In Google Docs, find the Insert option in the top menu, then choose Special characters.
Tip: Use this feature for long documents, like novels or screenplays. On your computer, open a document in Google Docs. To find the count of words, characters, and pages, at the top of the page, click Tools. Word count. To close the window, click Done.
To see the hidden characters in a Google Docs, Click somewhere in the Doc. Click View. Click Show non-printing characters. Click to Scroll down your Doc to see all of your hidden formatting symbols.
Alternatively, you can find the character count of selected text by using the Keyboard shortcut as well. In your Document, select the portion of text you want to know the word count of and press the Ctrl+Shift+C keys simultaneously. Mac book users can use Command+Shift+C.
Open your document or presentation. Click the Insert menu/Special Characters. You can use the drop-down menus to explore categories of characters, or, if you know the Unicode value for the character youre looking for, you can enter it into the Hex input text field.
Docs doesnt have a page or word limit, but it does have a character limit of 1.02 million characters. See size limit for files. The average page of text contains about 3,000 characters. Longer documents tend to lag in Docs, so I wouldnt recommend that you work with a 300-page file.
Count Characters in a Cell or String Click on the cell where you want to display the character count. Input =LEN(text) or reference your cell inside the parenthesis. Press enter. When using a specified string inside text, always remember to enclose it with quotation marks.
It is typed =COUNT and gets a list of cells: =COUNT(value1, [value2, ]) You can select cells one by one, but also ranges, or even multiple ranges. Note: The COUNT function only counts cells with numbers, not cells with letters.
