Requests using GET should only be used to request data (they shouldnt include data).
One of the most commonly used methods is the GET method, which retrieves data from a server. While HTTP specifications do not forbid sending a body with a GET request, doing so is non-standard and can lead to various problems.
The req. body is used when you need to send large or complex data to the server or when the data youre sending should not appear in the URL. For example, sending form data for user registration or updating a user profile, which could include several fields, is typically done in the body of the request.
The RFC 9110 states that a GET request should be cacheable. That constraint is violated if we send a body because proxies wont read that request body. As a result of uncached data, well hit performance issues due to multiple server calls.
HTTP request bodies are theoretically allowed for all methods except TRACE, however they are not commonly used except in PUT, POST and PATCH. Because of this, they may not be supported properly by some client frameworks, and you should not allow request bodies for GET, DELETE, TRACE, OPTIONS and HEAD methods.
You can use raw body data to send anything you can enter as text. In the Body tab of your request, select the raw option and use the dropdown list to indicate the format of your data (Text, JavaScript, JSON, HTML, or XML). Postman will enable syntax-highlighting and appending the relevant headers to your request.
In simpler terms, while its not explicitly forbidden to include a request body in a GET request, its never useful to do so.
The HTTP/1.1 specification (RFC 7230) does allow for the inclusion of a request body in GET requests, although it is generally not recommended. While technically feasible, attaching a body to a GET request goes against the principle of using GET for safely retrieving data without modifying server resources.
