In this guide, we will explore the process of implementing user authentication using PHP, step by step. Why User Authentication Matters. Setting Up Your Development Environment. Creating the User Database. Building the User Registration System. Creating the Login System. Implementing Session Management. Enhancing Security.
Sending GET Request with Basic Server Authentication. To send a GET request to the server with Basic Authentication credentials, you must pass the Authorization: Basic {credentials} HTTP header to the server with the users credentials encoded in a Base64 string in the login:password format.
To use HTTP authorization header with basic authentication, you need to follow these steps: Encode your username and password with base64. You can use any online tool or library to do this. For example, if your username is alice and your password is secret, the base64-encoded string would be YWxpY2U6c2VjcmV0.
The most common form of authentication is to send or receive an API key which consists of a long series of letters or numbers. This code of numbers calls programs from a different application; the key then recognizes the code, its developer, the end-user, and the application where the API call is made from.
We can directly embed basic auth username and password in the request by passing username and password as a tuple to the auth param and the get() method in requests will take care of the basic authorization for us.
Procedure Concatenate the user name with a colon, and the password. Encode this user name and password string in base64 encoding. Include this encoded user name and password in an HTTP Authorization: Basic header.
Basic authentication is a simple authentication method. Clients can authenticate via username and password. These credentials are sent in the Authorization HTTP header in a specific format. It begins with the Basic keyword, followed by a base64-encoded value of username:password.
