How do I remove termination protection?

To turn termination protection on or off for a running cluster using the AWS CLI. To enable termination protection on a running cluster with the AWS CLI, use the modify-cluster-attributes command with the --termination-protected parameter. To disable it, use the --no-termination-protected parameter.

What happens when an EC2 instance is terminated?

As part of an Amazon EC2 instance termination, the data on any instance store volumes associated with that instance is deleted. By default, the root Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) volume is automatically deleted.

What happens when Auto Scaling group is deleted?

When you delete an Auto Scaling group, its desired, minimum, and maximum values are set to 0. As a result, the instances are terminated. Deleting an instance also deletes any associated logs or data, and any volumes on the instance.

Do I get charged for stopped EC2 Instances?

Stopped instances dont incur charges, but Elastic IP addresses or EBS volumes attached to those instances do. To disassociate an Elastic IP address from an instance, see Disassociate an Elastic IP address. For information on releasing an unattached Elastic IP address, see Release an Elastic IP address.

What happens when an instance is terminated?

After an instance is terminated, resources such as tags and volumes are gradually disassociated from the instance and may no longer be visible on the terminated instance after a short while. When an instance terminates, the data on any instance store volumes associated with that instance is deleted.

Why did Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling terminate an instance?

Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling terminates Spot instances when either of the following occurs: Capacity is no longer available. Spot price exceeds the maximum price that you specified for the instances.

What happens if an auto scaled instance is terminated?

If you detach instances from your Auto Scaling group, you put instances on standby, or you explicitly terminate instances and decrement the desired capacity, which prevents replacement instances from launching, the group can become unbalanced.

What is default termination policy?

The default termination policy applies multiple termination criteria before selecting an instance to terminate. When Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling terminates instances, it first determines which Availability Zones have the most instances, and it finds at least one instance that is not protected from scale in.
