Right-click your mouse on the sheet tab you want to lock and click Protect sheet. Then select the Sheet tab in the Protected sheets and ranges side pane. Enter a description in the designated field and select the sheet you want to protect. You can keep specific cells unlocked within your locked sheet.
Protected Ranges allows you to select a range of cells and choose which collaborators have permission to edit those cells, and which collaborators should only be able to view those cells.
A range can be a single cell in a sheet or a group of adjacent cells in a sheet.
You must give another user permission to edit the whole spreadsheet before you can protect a range. For example, if you want someone to only be able to edit column B, you would need to first give them permission to edit the spreadsheet, and then follow the procedure below to protect all the other columns.
Click the Data tab on the top menu and select Protect sheets and ranges. Select +Add a sheet or range on the Protected sheets and ranges sidebar. Set the range or sheet you want to protect (in this example, the deals sheet). You can also specify the cells to exclude from protection.
Protect a named range To change a collaborators access to the range, click on the drop-down menu to the right of their name and choose to grant them Comment or Edit access.
How to lock cells in Google Sheets Open your sheet and select the cells you want to lock. Open the Data menu, and select Protected Sheets and Ranges in the dropdown menu. In the Protected Sheets and Ranges pane, enter a description for the actions youre prohibiting. Click the Set Permissions button.
Protect a sheet or range. If you dont want people to change the content in a spreadsheet, you can protect it. This shouldnt be used as a security measure. People can print, copy, paste, and import and export copies of a protected spreadsheet.
