okay so what again is we have is we have two points here and we want to write the equation of the line and were going to use point-slope form because point-slope form can help us use two points now in my last problem i showed you how to find the slope and we could just plug them into equation we could also just look at this and say all right well i want to label these whenever we have my two points i know that these are both x and y coordinates and im going to label them x1 y1 and x2 y2 and a lot of you are probably familiar with the slope formula so rather than plugging them into this equation and finding the slope we can easily just plug write them into the equation of the slope formula so the slope form remember is m equals y2 minus y1 over x2 minus x1 so therefore lets just go and figure this out here real quick so i have negative 2 minus 6 all over 2 minus a negative 4. well negative 2 minus 6 is going to be a negative eight negative two minus a negative four is going to be a

There are three major forms of linear equations: point-slope form, standard form, and slope-intercept form.
The standard form for linear equations in two variables is Ax+By=C. For example, 2x+3y=5 is a linear equation in standard form. When an equation is given in this form, its pretty easy to find both intercepts (x and y). This form is also very useful when solving systems of two linear equations.
How to Rewrite an Equation in Standard Form: Given an Equation in a Point-Slope Form Example. Step 1: Distribute m m to xx1 x x 1 . Step 2: Move y1 y 1 to the other side of the equation. Step 3: Subtract mx m x from both sides.
How to Write an Equation Read the entire problem several times. Look for keywords like more, less, is, etc. Replace the keywords with their mathematical operations and shorten the words to variables. Solve the resulting equation. Answer the problem clearly in a complete sentence.
For proper formatting, keep the equation left-aligned; indent by a half-inch; and after the equation, enter the relevant reference number, enclosed in parentheses, close to the right-hand margin. Use the tab key to achieve proper alignment.
There are three major forms of linear equations: point-slope form, standard form, and slope-intercept form.
On the Insert tab, in the Symbols group, click the arrow under Equation, and then click Insert New Equation. Under Equation Tools, on the Design tab, in the Symbols group, click the More arrow. Click the arrow next to the name of the symbol set, and then select the symbol set that you want to display.
FactYou can use this fact when you know:Slope formula:two points on a lineSlope-intercept formula: y = mx + bthe slope and y-intercept of a linePoint-slope formula: y - y1 = m(x - x1)the slope of a line and a point on the lineParallel lines have equal slopesthe slope of a line1 more row
If you need to use an equation, add or write it in Word. Select Insert Equation or press Alt + =. To use a built-in formula, select Design Equation. To create your own, select Design Equation Ink Equation. Use your finger, stylus, or mouse to write your equation.
An equation involving x and y, which is also a function, can be written in the form y = some expression involving x; that is, y = f ( x). This last expression is read as y equals f of x and means that y is a function of x.
