There are many glues on the market that are advertised as paper crafting glue. We have found that the best ones to work with are Tombow Mono Liquid, Zig 2-Way Glue Pens, Bearly Arts Precision Glue, and Nuvo Glue.
I typically use Mohawk superfine, but any text-weight paper will do. Colored papers show through the paste and are also very pretty. I start by laying my paper out on my clean mylar surface.
The thickness of the paper will depend on what you will be using your paste paper for; if you will be gluing it to another surface (which is how I usually use paste paper), a light-weight paper will be fine; but if you are going to have the paper stand alone, you may want to used something thicker.
Print your poster on thin paper so the paste can seep through, preferably 20-pound, uncoated bond paper. Once on site, use a wide paintbrush to add a layer of paste just slightly larger than your image. Press your poster into the paste, pushing out any air pockets.
: a patterned or textured paper made by applying brushes and hand tools to the surface of a paper that has been coated with thin colored paste and is still wet.
Mix one cup of cornstarch in 1 cup cold water. Boil 7 cups of water in a large pan. After the water is boiling remove the pan from the stove and add the cornstarch slurry without delay. While combining the slurry with the hot water, mix it with an electric beater to prevent lumps from forming in the paste.
Paste papers have been used since the 16th century as decorative endpapers and cover papers, which are produced by pressing or sliding objects into a wet paste/paint mixture that has been spread on paper. This style of decoration continues to be used today.
Watercolour paper Rough and not (cold pressed) watercolour papers make excellent textured surfaces for pastel. For example, 300lb sheets are popular if an artist is spending a long time on a picture and perhaps carrying it around with them, as the sturdiness of the paper helps prevent damage.
