its a question that can cause quite the debate do you have to pay your tickets from a private parking lot if you bring that up at the next party you go to generally therell be two groups those that pay and those that dont Lauren Walter was part of the ladder group she had a job where there was no employee parking so she made the decision to park in the private lot across the street and to not pay I was a summer student I was in university thats like more than there was being paid an hour um if I were to have paid for parking every day it would have cost me 10 like more than 10 times would it cost me to get my car back from the tow yard so for me it was a no-brainer she ended up getting towed twice but says cost-wise she still came out on top obviously I didnt feel great about it but mathematically it made sense before you go and follow Laurens lead and ignore your parking tickets you do need to know there is a big difference between parking in a private lot versus City for one th

Most cities allow drivers to dispute parking tickets with screening officers online or in person (depending on the severity of the violation). If you arent happy with the screening officers decision, you can request a trial. If you succeed in the trial, you will not have to pay the fee related to your parking ticket.
Example letter I believe that this ticket was issued unfairly. I am not liable for the amount payable because: There was insufficient signage. There was no sign at the entrance of the car park. I have enclosed the following evidence to demonstrate my claim: A photo of the entrance to the car park.
Your Dispute Options Parking violations can be disputed online or in-person by appointment only. Within 15 days of receiving your parking violation notice you can request a review. If you missed this deadline, you can request an extension.
Making a formal challenge You have 28 days to make a formal challenge (called a representation) after you get a notice to owner. You must: explain your reasons for challenging the PCN in as much detail as possible. provide copies of any evidence or documents to support your challenge.
You will be required to file an Application to Waive Fine Payment known as a Recognizance. This application is heard before a Judge. If your application is granted, you will be required to enter into a recognizance in lieu of fine payment and the Appeal Court will accept your Notice of Appeal.
Your ticket should be cancelled if you can prove: you couldnt see any road markings or signs. the signs or markings were hard to read for example theyd faded or were hidden by trees. the signs were misleading or confusing. there werent any signs saying parking was suspended.
You can write a letter to the court explaining your situation. In some cases, you may be able to have the ticket dismissed altogether. If not, you may at least be able to get a reduction in the fine. If you want to appeal a parking ticket in Canada, you must do so within 14 days of receiving the ticket.
