10 the registers okay so Ive gotten some questions on stream recently about how do you save multiple snippets of text inside of them and I realize that I really dont have the best understanding of how all the different registers in vim work so what I did is I broke down all the ten and thought out some use cases for each and well kind of walk through each one before we do that lets give a quick overview of what registers are so first registers allow you to save text inside for later retrieval so we actually look at our registers you can always type registers and see all of the registers here youll see theyre actually all blank each one starts with a double quote and then double quote double quote 0 through 9 a through Z and then a bunch of special characters here at the bottom so all of these we can store different information to be retrieved later from so if you ever want to access a register theres two different ways if youre inside of normal mode all you do is you always do

Press y to copy, or d to cut the selection. Move the cursor to the location where you want to paste the contents. Press P to paste the contents before the cursor, or p to paste it after the cursor.

We can use the +p and + in normal and command mode, respectively. However, it might be more convenient if we use the hotkey since it does the same thing as +p. Similarly, will yank the text into the + register to be available for pasting outside of Vim.
In insert and command-line modes. In insert and command-line modes, you can use to paste the contents of a register (:help iCTRL-R). In particular, pastes from the default (unnamed) register, which is analogous to doing p in normal mode.
On builds that support it, the register named * is the system clipboard. To copy text from Vim to the system clipboard, you can select the text using visual mode, then press * y to copy it to the system clipboard. Conversely, use * p to paste text from the system clipboard into Vim. Save this answer.
