Quotation marks are ALWAYS used in pairs, one at the beginning of the quoted text and one at the end. The same rule applies to titles and words used in a special sense or for emphasis. Use double quotation marks () around a direct quote.
The content of a DNS TXT type record is often displayed with double quotes, but those quotes are not (or should not be) part of the actual DNS record content. The quotes are there for display purposes only.
TXT records have no specific formatting requirements, but theyre not meant for large amounts of data. Values longer than 255 characters will need to be split into multiple parts, with each section that contains more than 255 characters enclosed in double quotes.
Double quotation marks are used most frequently. On standard American English keyboards, these are typed using the same key found near the Enter key, sharing space with the apostrophe (). To type them, you simply tap the key once at the start and once at the end of the quoted material.
