hello everybody this is tech Hut and this is another Windows basics tutorial and in this one what Im going to be doing is showing you how to use and why youd want to use zip files and windows were gonna go over how to create them how to compress them how to add files to them and Im gonna shout out a tool that adds more functionality to this so a zip file is essentially a way to compress your files down and make them easier to send now lets say I have here a group of files that I want to send together to somebody or I want to upload them to the Internet and make it easier to download all I would need to do is select all of the items that I want to be compressed into the zip folder right click on it and then youre gonna have the option to send it to a compressed zip folder so if I just clicked on that what would happen is it will begin the compressing process and it will create a folder on or in the same directory that you had those files in so here I can name this something like I

zipgrep will search files within a ZIP archive for lines matching the given string or pattern. zipgrep is a shell script and requires egrep(1) and unzip(1L) to function. Its output is identical to that of egrep(1).
To view the entire content of a compressed file while leaving the compressed file intact, you can use any of these commands: for 7z: 7z x -so words. 7z. for bz2: bzcat words. bz2. for gz: zcat words. gz. for xz: xzcat words. xz. for zip: zcat words. zip.
Unfortunately, grep doesnt work on compressed files. To overcome this, people usually advise to first uncompress the file(s), and then grep your text, after that finally re-compress your file(s) You dont need to uncompress them in the first place. You can use zgrep on compressed or gzipped files.
Select the text you want to copy and press Ctrl+C. Place your cursor where you want to paste the copied text and press Ctrl+V.
Press and hold (or right-click) the file or folder, select (or point to) Send to, and then select Compressed (zipped) folder. A new zipped folder with the same name is created in the same location. To rename it, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Rename, and then type the new name.
You may open the Search window, from the Manage tab of an open WinZip file. Use the Search option to search for a particular file or set of files within the currently viewed folder or the entire Zip file and select them.
When you copy a compressed file, the system first uncompresses it, copies it, then compresses it on the destination drive. Consequently, if the destination drive doesnt have enough space to accommodate the uncompressed file, the copy operation fails.
Right-click on the file or folder. Select Compressed (zipped) folder. To place multiple files into a zip folder, select all of the files while hitting the Ctrl button. Then, right-click on one of the files, move your cursor over the Send to option and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
As we showed earlier, you can use the zgrep command to search through compressed files without having to unzip them first. You can also use the zcat command to display the contents of a gz file and then pipe that output to grep to isolate the lines containing your search string.
You cannot copy and paste from a . zip file directly into the same, or another . zip file. You have to extact the file, then add it to the new .
