Etching ink is pushed into the grooves or marks and the surface is wiped before printing. Etching is a five hundred year old printmaking technique with a rich history. The use of acids to create a chemical reaction and etch a design into a plate makes the process quite magical.
They are etching inks with excellent viscosity (especially Charbonnel), and they work very well for relief prints.
Ink - Liquid vs. Paste Inks are used for very fine, fluid and easy writing. Fountain and rollerball pens use liquid inks. Paste: Thick like honey, highly viscous. Pastes have a high shelf life and can be used without caps to prevent drying.
Any Ink will work fine. I usually use color litho inks, and etching black.
Paste ink is widely used for printing on paper substrates. The technology works on emulsion technique (the fact that oil and water does not mix with each other). These inks are supplied in form of paste which are thick and tacky in nature.
Common types of printing are: Surface Printing. Flexographic Printing. Screen Printing. Rotary Screen. Gravure Printing. Digital Printing.
Monotype Inks I made my first monotype in high school, using watercolor on a sanded plexiglass plate. Since then Ive done monoprint using oil paint, waterbased marker, watercolor crayons and watercolor pencil. Ive even experimented with chalk pastel, making some beautiful effects using Prismacolor Nupastel.
Lithographic ink is composed of tallow 2 ounces; virgin wax 2 ounces; shell lac 2 ounces ; common soap 2 ounces ; lamp black i an ounce. These materials are prepared in an iron saucepan with a cover.
