While there a number of manufacturing methods, most share these basic phases of production: formulating, premixing, milling, filtration, and testing. These standard inks dry primarily by polymerization, a chemical reaction that is initiated by oxygen and catalyzed by cobalt and manganese lons from the drier.
Heres what you need to know: Liquid Ink. Just as the name implies, this ink comes in liquid form. Solid Ink. Some printers use solid ink instead of liquid ink. Toner. Ribbon Ink. UV Ink. 3D Printing Ink.
Production Process Hard resin/Varnish Process. The Hard Resin is the main ink raw materials composed of natural rosin. Blending/Aging process. Powder putting colors into inks is called pigment. Dispersion process. Adjustment process. Packaging process.
Ink - Liquid vs. Paste Inks are used for very fine, fluid and easy writing. Fountain and rollerball pens use liquid inks. Paste: Thick like honey, highly viscous. Pastes have a high shelf life and can be used without caps to prevent drying.
Ink can be a complex mixture, containing a variety of substances such as solvents, resins, alcohol, lubricants, carbon, pigments, dyes, aniline, dextrine, glycerine, fluorescents and other materials.
Paste ink is widely used for printing on paper substrates. The technology works on emulsion technique (the fact that oil and water does not mix with each other). These inks are supplied in form of paste which are thick and tacky in nature.
It is made by mixing a dry, powdered compound made from carbon particles with a liquid, either water or oil. The pigment remains suspended in the ink as solid, opaque particles until application.
Essentially, the key ingredients to an ink are pigments, resins and waxes and additives.
