hello and welcome to this session of the microsoft research summit 2021 my name is darren edge im a director in the societal resilience group at microsoft research and today im talking about technologies that were building to help translate real world data into real world evidence now this notion of real worldiness emerged in the medical space to differentiate from the highly controlled nature of data and evidence emerging from randomized control trials in the clinical space but we found broad applicability of these ideas to societal problems beyond healthcare especially for those situations where its not possible practical or ethical to conduct a randomized control trial and raw data evidence play a key role in our societal resilience research agenda because only by translating data into evidence can we inform the policies decisions and actions that move us towards a more equitable and resilient society so here we can see several domains where we need to build more resilience as a
