Theres no cure for heart failure. Treatment aims to relieve symptoms and slow further damage. TheI exact plan depends on the stage and type of heart failure, underlying conditions and the individual patient.
In patients with systolic heart failure, survival has been improved by three categories of medication, sometimes referred to as triple therapy: vasodilators (especially ACE inhibitors, which can lead to 23% relative reduction in mortality);17 beta-blockers (which can lead to a 35% relative reduction in mortality);18
Research estimates that more than half of all people with congestive heart failure will survive for 5 years after diagnosis. About 35% will survive for 10 years. However, in some cases, a person can extend their life expectancy through lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery.
How is congestive heart failure diagnosed? Resting or exercise electrocardiogram (also known as EKG, ECG, or stress test) Echocardiogram. Computed tomography (CT) scan. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan. Biopsy or catheterization of the heart and arteries.
You can check for heart disease at home by measuring your pulse rate and your blood pressure if you have a blood pressure monitor. You can also monitor yourself for symptoms of heart disease, such as: Chest pain, pressure, discomfort, or tightness. Being short of breath.
The fluid buildup can cause shortness of breath and swelling of the legs and feet. Poor blood flow may cause the skin to appear blue or gray. Depending on your skin color, these color changes may be harder or easier to see. Some types of heart failure can lead to an enlarged heart.
Cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) is an international shipping agreement, which represents the charges paid by a seller to cover the costs, insurance, and freight of a buyers order while the cargo is in transit. Cost, insurance, and freight only applies to goods transported via a waterway, sea, or ocean.
A test called an echocardiogram is often the best test to diagnose your heart failure. Your doctor can also use this test to find out why you have heart failure, and then monitor your condition going forward every three to six months.
