To change the default back, select File Options Advanced Cut, copy, and paste, click the Pasting from other programs down arrow and select Keep Source Formatting in the list, and then click OK.

The AutoFormat feature in Word controls many features that can be annoying to some. Access the AutoFormat Control by navigating to the File Tab Menu select Options Proofing AutoCorrect . Choose AutoFormat As You Type. You can pick and choose which features youd like by selecting or deselecting check boxes.
Paste as Plain Text To clear the unwanted formatting, click on the Paste as text button found in the text editor, paste your text and click save. You can then go back to edit the formatting the way you want.
By default, Word preserves the original formatting when you paste content into a document using Ctrl+V, the Paste button, or right-click + Paste. To change the default, follow these steps. Go to File Options Advanced. Under Cut, copy, and paste, select the down arrow for the setting to change.
Press Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+X to cut, or Ctrl+V to paste the text or picture (Windows); or press ⌘+C, ⌘+X, or ⌘+V (Mac). On Chrome, Firefox, and Chromium-based Edge, you can also use Ctrl+Shift+V and ⌘+Shift+V to paste text only (pastes text without source formatting).
PCs: Keep Source Formatting will preserve the text as you copied it (keyboard shortcut: CTRL + K after pasting) Merge Formatting will force the text youre pasting to match the text around it (keyboard shortcut: CTRL + M after pasting).
To copy and paste, you can use keyboard shortcuts: PC: Ctrl + C for Copy, Ctrl + X for Cut and Ctrl + V for Paste.
