if you sleep in the same room as your pc then you might find this helpful that blinking led on your case can feel blinding at nighttime and so to disable it locate the front panel connectors on your motherboard generally located in the bottom right hand corner of the board from here simply find the one labeled hdd led and unplug it and just like that the led on your case will no longer blink when your storage is in use speaking of blinking

Procedure Start Pageant from the PuTTY folder: Start-Menu All Programs PuTTY Pageant. Find the Pageant icon in the system tray. Right-click the Pageant icon in the system tray and select View Keys. Click Add Key. Use the File Explorer window to select your SSH key file to load.
Generate a ppk file Download and open PuTTYgen from the PuTTY Download Page. Click Load. Locate the private SSH key that you have downloaded. Enter the password for your SSH Key. Click the Save private key button to create the ppk file.
The SSH public key authentication has four steps: Generate a private and public key, known as the key pair. Add the corresponding public key to the server. The server stores and marks the public key as approved. The server allows access to anyone who proves the ownership of the corresponding private key.
The example used is for putty version 0.79. Launch PuTTY but do not connect to a remote system. In the Category window, browse to ConnectionData. Set the Auto-login username to the remote SSH username. Browse to ConnectionSSHAuthCredentials. Test key-based authentication. Select Open to test the session.
Here are the steps to quickly convert a PEM to a PPK file with PuTTYGen: Download PuTTYGen from puttygen.com. Open PuTTYGen and click the Load button. Set the filetype to *. Select your PEM file and PuTTYGen will import it. Click Save Private Key and PuTTYGen will convert the PEM to a PPK file.
Open PuTTY and navigate to Connection SSH Auth Credentials below the Category section. Click the Browse button near the Private key file for the authentication field. Select the . ppk file you generated and then click Open.

0400 permission means owner has read access. 0600 means, that the owner has read + write access. But even if the file is set to 0400, the owner has always the possibility of changing the permissions, so the file is virtually writable by the owner all the time.
