[Music] the question is at what age I think you mentioned there was as early as 21 we should be getting past but how often are we getting that right so going back to age 21 a lot of the recommendations have changed over the years so Im giving the American College of ob-gyn recommendations theres different organizations that have different recommendations but we used to say a certain number of years after he became sexually active but now pretty much thats the standard age 21 if you started having sex really young we used to say 3 years afterwards but it doesnt matter our least are denying sex the risk of cervical cancer is so low but before the age of 21 that thats when people should get there first pap smear if you do it before then youre just increasing the number of extra testing that they need to do and its traumatizing for those young girls so thats why we say 21 Im just gonna put chastity belts on my children and were gonna call it a day now results of an abnormal pap c

You should start getting Pap tests at age 21. If your Pap test result is normal, your doctor may tell you that you can wait three years until your next Pap test.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that all women between the ages of 21 and 65 should get regular Pap smears tests. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) do not recommend Pap smears for people under the age of 21.
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Pap smears in women under 21 do more harm than good, new guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) say. In most cases such tests reveal only human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, which rarely lead to cervical cancer in women under 21, said Dr.
Many people are used to having one every year, because that was the previous recommendation. But, as research has evolved, a yearly Pap smear is no longer recommended for most people. Depending on your age and risk factors, you only need a Pap smear every 3 to 5 years.
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), guidelines include: If you are at least age 21, you should start cervical cancer screening, even if you are not yet sexually active. If you are younger than 30, you can likely be tested for cervical cancer every other year instead of yearly.
If you are 30 to 65 years old, you should get: A Pap test every 3 years, or. An HPV test every 5 years, or. A Pap test and HPV test together (called co-testing) every 5 years.
Image-Guided Pap with Age-Based Screening Protocols - This new test code is designed to help clinicians order age-appropriate testing for cervical cancer screening and STIs.
A big reason for the change: We now better understand the way cervical cancer develops over timewe know it takes many years to developso weve expanded the time between screenings. We also now have two screening options to detect cervical cancer, the Pap test and the HPV test.
