It depends what you mean by password protect. You can restrict access to both folders and individual documents to certain users (or SP Groups or AD Groups) using the UI. If you dont want to use normal AD names/passwords for this you *could* create users *on the server* and then give those server users access rights.
Use encryption to password protect a folder or a file Navigate to the folder or file you want to encrypt. Right-click on the item, click Properties, then click Advanced. Check Encrypt contents to secure data. Click OK, then click Apply.
To make a document or folder private again, you can stop sharing it. Select the people icon for the document or folder to open the Share dialog box. In the Shared With dialog box, select Can view or Can edit next to the person you want to stop sharing with, and then select Stop sharing.
Search for and select Azure Active Directory, then choose Security from the menu on the left-hand side. Under the Manage menu header, select Authentication methods, then Password protection. Set the option for Enforce custom list to Yes. Add strings to the Custom banned password list, one string per line.
You can easily secure your files by storing them on any SharePoint site and making sure, the site has unique security settings. The content that is stored on a site (all document libraries, other web parts) inherit permissions from that site.
To password protect a URL go to the Security section in SiteTools and click Protected URLs. Under the URLs tab, choose the Domain and fill in the Path to the URL. If you do not have any users created you will be prompted to provide a user and password, which will be used to access the protected URL.
Select the check boxes for the users and SharePoint groups on which you want to edit permission levels on this securable object. Click Edit User Permissions. In the Choose Permissions section, select the permission levels you want, clear those you do not want, and then click OK.
How to password protect documents in SharePoint Online? Select a document Click on Share. Select Anyone with the link as the share. Once done, click on Apply, and you can either copy the link or send it directly. Upon sharing the document, This is what the user sees: prompts to enter a password.
