How to encrypt a PDF file for email Open the PDF you want to encrypt in the editor. On the top toolbar, click Tools Protect Encrypt Encrypt with Password. Check the box next to Require a password to open the document. Choose a password in the text block.
It should have at least 12 characters and include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. It should not contain any common words, names, dates, or patterns that are easy to guess or find in a dictionary. It should also be different from any other password you use for other sites or services.
