hi everyone in this video were going to be talking about making sure that your money or currency fields in FileMaker actually look like money or currency fields if you put them into a text field now I cover the basics about formatting for currency in one of our pro four video courses and this is a continuation of that conversation so first off weve been working on our new version of FM starting point and we ran into a situation where we had a minor enhancement or upgrade and what we were doing was that we were in invoices and we had this really gnarly invoice which was over a million bucks and of course this is all test data but we have is that if we send a copy of this invoice out as a PDF attached to an email we wanted to log that information into the contact record for the attached contact so if we go to scripts we can look in here and take a look at the email and invoice form right and so we have this whole script that goes on and does exporting and attaching a PDF and all that

Type the formula =SpellNumber(A1) into the cell where you want to display a written number, where A1 is the cell containing the number you want to convert. You can also manually type the value like =SpellNumber(22.50). Press Enter to confirm the formula.
Write amounts using the relevant currency symbol followed by numerals. Dont put a space between the currency symbol and the numerals.
If the currency type is in question, the symbol may include a country prefix, such as CA$, Can$ or C$ for Canadian dollars, or US$ for U.S. dollars. The symbol is used to represent the euro currency, represents the Japanese yen, and signifies a florin, such as the Aruban Florin.
United States (U.S.) currency is formatted with a decimal point (.)Examples: 500 or 500,00 or 500.00 = five hundred dollars and no cents. 500,15 or 500.15 = five hundred dollars and fifteen cents. 500,150 or 500.150 or 500,150.00 or 500.150,00 = five hundred thousand, one hundred fifty dollars and no cents.
Generally, you should use the Format Cells dialog (Ctrl+1) or Home Number Accounting Number Format option to apply a currency formatting to a cell.
Write the country symbol ( US ) first, immediately followed by the dollar sign ($) and the dollar figure: US$ 25.99.
=VLOOKUP(C2,F2:G7,2,0)*A2 of Simple Currency Conversion in Excel. The Vlookup operation syntax locates the currency in the Excel Table, and then retrieves the current Currency Conversion Rate from column G and converts the USD amount. The basis of this operation is the VLOOKUP Function.
If more or fewer than two decimal places are used, Excel will not recognize the cell as containing currency values. Finally, another reason why currency values may not be recognized as such is because they are entered into cells that are not adjacent to each other.
Select the cells that you want to format and then, in the Number group on the Home tab, click the down arrow in the Number Format box. Choose either Currency or Accounting.
For US dollars, the symbol $ is sufficient abbreviation, unless there is a mixture of dollar currencies in the text. For other dollar currencies, $ should be prefixed with the country abbreviation. For all other currencies, write the figure first followed by the currency name, for example, 100 million yuan.
