Certificates of insurance (COIs) are documents containing all the essential details of an insurance policy in an easily digestible, standardized format. A COI is intended to prove a policys status, provide quick access to its coverage details, reduce risk exposure, and protect against third-party liability.
A listing as the certificate holder provides a COI that shows the subcontractor is covered. Verifying this by tracking certificates of insurance is important because if a subcontractor is uninsured or underinsured and causes a loss, your company likely will be forced to pay the claim.
Certificates of Insurance (COI) and Credentialing Reports are both available through the online dental portal through either the All Documents tab or View Quotes and Applications. If you know the policy name or number, from the main page select the All Documents tab.
A certificate of insurance proves to potential business partners and customers that your business is properly covered with the right insurance and that it is safe for them to do business with you.
Essentially, the COI serves as a proof of insurance so other businesses you work with know you have the insurance protections essential to minimize risks. It serves as a peace-of-mind before entering into a business agreement.
A certificate holder, put baldly, is the person or organization that holds the certificate. If you receive a certificate of insurance from a hired third party, youre the certificate holder.
The certificate of insurance names the general contractor as the certificate holder, which means they are the entity receiving the document. A COI is simply proof of insurance at that point in time. It provides general details about the policyholders coverage but does not modify the policy in any way.
A Certificate Holder is a person or organization to whom the certificate is being provided as evidence of insurance. In the commercial real estate space, the Certificate Holder is typically required to be the landlord, property manager, or both.
You may need to produce a COI before youre permitted to start any work or lease any property. You can obtain a COI by contacting your insurance agent or insurer and providing a written description of the minimum coverage requirements.
