Sometimes its nice if you are tar zipping a directory (lets say for a backup) and want to exclude a directory. For instance, if you are backing up a project and want to exclude the images directory (for size) or exclude the build or dist directory you can run the linux tar command with the --exclude option.
If you are using putty, please follow following steps: Enter your directory: $ cd directoryname and press enter. Write command: $ zip -r filename.zip . - x \*excludingfolderName\*
A 001 file is the first file of a split archive created with various file splitting and joining utilities. It is used to split large archives into smaller, more manageable files. 001 files can be used for saving files onto multiple storage devices, such as USB drives or CDs, or for creating smaller email attachments.
In the above syntax, the -r flag is used to append files, and the -x flag is used to exclude files.
To ignore files and folder when creating a zip archive using the command line add the -x flag followed by a filter. For example, to ignore . git VCS and the macOS .
To unzip the your split zipped library with The Unarchiver, you can right-click on the first file . zip. 001, hover over Open With and select The Unarchiver and it will automatically begin unzipping. We thank developers for this non-sense confusion, hope this article helps.
You can define -x multiple times in a single zip command to exclude multiple files and directories from the zip archive.
To create a new split Zip file Highlight the file(s) and/or folder(s) you want to use to create a split Zip file in Windows Explorer or on the Desktop. Right click in the highlighted area and choose Create a Split Zip File from the WinZip submenu of the context menu.
