Subject pronouns are not optional. This one is important, so were saying it again! Subject pronouns are requiredEnglish verbs dont change to show who is doing an action, so those subject pronouns are really helpful and cant be omitted like in other languages.
Subject pronouns replace the subject of a sentence. They can be either singular or plural. An object pronoun also replaces a noun within a sentence, but not the subject. Object pronouns replace the person or thing receiving the verb in a sentence.
You can use an ellipsisthree consecutive periods, with one space around each ( . . . )to leave out extra or unnecessary words. The ellipsis represents information that you are omitting from a quotation.
The quick fix Start with a prepositional phrase. A propositional phrase lets us know where the subject of the sentence is in time or space, or what the relationship is between two entities. Swap the clauses. Cut out unnecessary actions. Avoid filter phrases (I thought, I saw, I heard ).
Thats called subject ellipsis. You omit the subject when its really obvious, not very important, and the structure of the sentence is clear without it. So to add the subject back in, you just have to add it, with no rephrasing required.
Whenever you use a sentence where the subject or the subject with an auxiliary is repeated then this can be left out after the conjunctions: and, but, or and then. English speakers use this all the time and it will makes your English sound more natural.
When to omit relative pronouns. If the clause is essential (i.e., if the clause is essential to the meaning of the sentence) and the relative pronoun is the object of the clause, the relative pronoun can be omitted.
: to leave out or leave unmentioned. omits one important detail.
