Microsoft says Matteson created the typeface with a slight humanist touch. He wanted Aptos to have the universal appeal of the late NPR newscaster Carl Kasell and the astute tone of The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, the companys 2023 announcement said.
Aptos derived inspiration from classic Swiss typefaces of the mid-20th century, with hints of Helvetica and Arial fonts in its makeup. While Calibri is seen as accessible, and indeed, in the top 5 of accessible fonts, Aptos stands out, particularly with its readability in design.
Head to File menu, and select Options. Then click on Mail and then Stationery and Fonts Click on the Font button to open the font dialog box: Then change the default back to Calibri and save.
After 17 years of Calibri as Words default typeface, many users suddenly found themselves typing in a new typeface called Aptos. The change is also affecting the look of PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel. Letters are letters, but for designers and typography fans, they matter a lot.
On the Home tab, in the Editing group, select Replace and then select Replace Fonts. In the Replace Font dialog box, in the Replace field, select the font that you want to replace. In the With field, select the font that you want to use, select Replace, and then select Close.
The company has said the advent of higher resolution screens was a big factor behind their search for a successor. After weighing public comments on five finalists, last year officials announced that Aptos, a font named for a small town in California, would become the new default.
